Projects on steep slopes impact the perception of open space encircling the town, therefore these projects should blend in with the hillsides to preserve the natural character.

A. Minimize visual impacts to existing hillside slopes by restoring the natural topography and plantings to the site.

1. Leveled yards and patios are not appropriate on hillside lots where the grade must be significantly altered to accommodate them.

2. Limit the number and height of retaining walls.

3. Formal landscaping is not appropriate on steep lots. Use plant materials that are native and blend with the natural hillside.

4. Where feasible, preserve existing plant materials of significant size, including trees, shrubs, and other natural landscape features in place, or relocate them within the site.
