A person commits the offense of abandoning dangerous containers and appliances when he or she abandons or discards, in any place accessible to children, any chest, closet, piece of furniture, refrigerator, icebox, motor vehicle or other article having a compartment of a capacity of one and one-half (1½) cubic feet or more and having a door or lid which, when closed, cannot easily be opened from the inside, or when he or she, being the owner, lessee or manager of such place, knowingly permits such abandoned or discarded article to remain in such condition.
